    International Bridges to Justice (IBJ), a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization with a presence in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, seeks a Legal Director for its Geneva Office. IBJ is a human rights organization with a specific commitment to the legal development of criminal justice systems in developing countries. In partnership with local governments and legal aid organizations, IBJ trains criminal defenders and enhances local capacity to provide effective legal aid to persons who are arrested and accused of a crime.

    Duties: The Legal Director will be accountable for the development of processes to replicate and implement IBJ’s Country Defender Model in developing countries. This includes overseeing the development of standardized training materials, the IBJ fellowship program and partnering with peer and complimentary organizations to establish a recognized platform to institutionalize functioning criminal justice systems in developing countries. The Legal Director will be accountable for the development of training materials and processes that will establish IBJ as an expert organization on criminal justice defender training for developing countries. Work will also involve the maintenance of external relationships and directing IBJ lawyers, interns and volunteers to accomplish objectives.

    Qualifications: The applicant should have at least ten years of experience in criminal law and/or international development, preferably in the rule of law and human rights. An advanced degree in law, international affairs, public policy, or business is required. The applicant must possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and come with a proven track record of leadership in their respective field. The successful candidate will have the ability to blend technical legal knowledge with structural programming and display strong operational capabilities in a start up situation. Significant publications in the rule of law or related fields are preferred. Fluency in English is required.

    Salary: Commensurate with experience, subject to a non-profit organization range.
