    International Bridges to Justice (IBJ), a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization with a presence in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, seeks a Program Director for its China Program. IBJ is a human rights organization with a specific commitment to the legal development of criminal justice systems in developing countries. In partnership with local governments and legal aid organizations, IBJ trains criminal defenders and enhances local capacity to provide effective legal assistance to persons who are arrested and accused of crime.

    Duties: The China Program Director must have the experience, skills and knowledge to represent the IBJ organization in China. The Director will develop the overall China program plan and budget, based on IBJ objectives. The Director will be accountable for China-wide implementation and project reporting of all IBJ China program and training activities. He or she will interact frequently with, among others, high level Chinese and foreign government officials, potential funders and leading reformers in host countries, many of whom are in the non-governmental sector. The Director will manage the China team of IBJ lawyers, interns and volunteers.

    Qualifications:     Applicants should have significant criminal defense and management experience in the government, private or non-profit sector, representing and leading an organization. Experience in international development, preferably in rule of law and human rights programs, is preferred. An advanced degree in law, international affairs, public policy, or business is required.  Significant publication in the rule of law or related fields is desirable. The applicant must possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and come with a proven track record of leading teams under difficult situations. Fluency in English is required and in Mandarin is preferred. Knowledge of and experience in China is highly valued.

    Salary: Commensurate with experience, subject to a non-profit organization range.
